Bonjour Katrina: Coffee in Paris: Hexagone Café
Hexagone Café is a specialty coffee shop and a torréfacteur (coffee roaster). I walked to Hexagone by myself (a super special treat) on a Sunday. The coffee was good, but honestly my favorite thing about the experience was that it was open! Most of Paris seems to shut down on Sundays. After I placed my order, I was forgotten about and had to re-order. Mais, c'est pas grave (no problem). I wasn't in a hurry to go anywhere. While the walk to the coffee shop wasn't an especially jaw-dropping, eye-candy-on-every-corner experience, one delightful surprise I came across was a ceramic store across the street. The owner hand makes all of the items, and prices them very reasonably. So if you're looking for a special gift to take home to a coffee lover, I recommend buying a bag of coffee from Hexagone, and then heading across the street for a mug made in Paris. Hexagone Cafe
121 Rue du Château, 75014 Paris, France EDITOR'S REVIEW Hexagone is a very relaxing café. The music played fits the environment; it's super chilled and all about the coffee. There's lots of seating inside, including window benches as well as wooden tables and chairs. It's not built for comfort, though, it's built to enjoy coffee. Thus, there's no WiFi - although there are lots of colouring books and story books for children. The coffee is excellent; they roast their own and serve it up in a number of ways. The staff are extremely knowledgeable, steam their milk to perfection, and clearly care about making a good cup of coffee. You can choose from a number of brewing methods/espresso-based drinks and there are educational posters dotted around so you can learn whilst you drink.
