Allard, institution gastronomique parisienne nichée au cœur de Saint-Germain-des-Prés depuis 1932, incarne l'âme du bistrot français traditionnel. Repris par Alain Ducasse en 2013, le restaurant perpétue l'héritage culinaire de Marthe Allard avec des plats classiques comme les cuisses de grenouilles, le canard aux olives et les profiteroles. Tell us about your first impressions when you arrived. An intimate dining room whose diffused light, dark wood paneling, red leather banquette, tobacco-stained walls, and floral-printed wallpaper make every tête-à-tête look like a scene in a Merchant Ivory film. What was the crowd like? Because you come here for a flawless preparation of say, dover sole à la meunière, you aren't getting the hipsters in search of the new, but rather a mix of middle-aged to older twosomes and foursomes who want to actually talk. What should we be drinking? As you would expect, Gérard Margeon, the head sommelier of Alain Ducasse restaurants, has a list of over 150 wines from Burgundy, Bordeaux, the Rhone Valley, etc. Main event: the food. Give us the lowdown—especially what not to miss. Allard is among the last-of-its-kind classic gourmet (if ever there were an apt if antiquated word) bistros you come back to again and again. "Here, beauty is both in the room and on the plate," says Mimi Thorisson. "The duck with green olives is utterly satisfying." Frogs' legs, poached turbot, and duck foie gras are prepared as they should be and without unnecessary or unwanted flourish. And how did the front-of-house folks treat you? Attentive enough. What’s the real-real on why we’re coming here? For cities you have occasion to go back to again and again, Allard is like home. Good for family dinner as well as a cozy twosomes. While impressive enough for foodies who need to round out their classical food education, Allard is a place that would satisfy the least adventurous American.

12.5/20 Table Gourmande On ressent obligatoirement un petit pincement au cœur lorsqu'on pénètre chez Allard, mythique bistrot bientôt centenaire où clients et serveurs doivent faire preuve d'une grande agilité pour circuler entre les tables et rejoindre les fameuses banquettes de velours de rouge. Alain Ducasse est toujours aux manettes et s'attache, comme le veut l'histoire du lieu, à placer des femmes en cuisine. Lisa Desforges, en place depuis 2023, rend hommage aux fondatrices, Marthe et Fernande Allard, en revisitant les cuisses de grenouilles (de Saint Nizier sous Charlieu, magnifiques), le ris de veau au sautoir et laitue braisée et le savarin au rhum, accompagné d'une addictive crème chantilly.
