Paris Cafes: Seven excellent coffee shops in Montmartre - The Earful Tower

So you’re in Montmartre but you’re hankering for a proper cup of coffee. None of this bistro nonsense, these espressos that don’t taste of much. You want a delicious specialty coffee, perhaps with a nice cafe ambience too. Well look no further, here are seven coffee shops that are excellent. And full disclosure, I didn’t visit all seven during our 24 hours in Montmartre (that would have been crazy), but I did live in the area for two years so you can rest assured I’ve done my research properly. 1. SYLON This cosy little spot is just downhill from the charming rue des Abbesses and is the perfect place for a hot cup of joe. The staff will make you feel at home and the coffee is always perfect. Address: 4bis Rue Piemontesi, 75018 Paris @sylon.de.montmartre 2. LA MAIN NOIRE We had breakfast here during our visit and that was excellent too. The cafe serves specialty coffee sources from micro roasters, and has a seasonal menu for their delicious food which is all natural, organic, and vegan. And the cafe itself is charming, on a street with cool street art. Address: 12 Rue Cavallotti, 75018 Paris @la.main.noire 3. LES CINQ MARCHES This is a relatively new place, tucked away on a back road near the top of the hill. It seems like a very local place, fewer tourists and more residents. Beautiful bright interior, great coffee, lovely food. And the name (which translates to “The five steps” comes from, you guessed it, the steps leading to the cafe. Address: 12 Rue Girardon, 75018 Paris @les.5.marches 4. MIGNON CAFÉ This is a cute little spot indeed, on the back side of the butte and perfect for a rainy day. Also very local, friendly staff, and great cakes. Last I checked you could even get a loyalty card, so if you visit enough you’ll get a free cappuccino before too long 🙂 Address: 67 Rue Caulaincourt, 75018 Paris @mignoncafeparis 5. THE BEANS ON FIRE – TROIS FRÈRES The newest on this list, the striking red facade is home to excellent coffee and a range of yummy cakes and pastries. There’s another Beans on Fire in the 11th – a wonderful spot too. Added bonus: When you step out of this cafe you’re on the street that was frozen in 1942 (read more about it here). Address: 61 Rue des Trois Frères, 75018 Paris @thebeansonfire 6. CAFÉ TABAC These guys make a decent cup of joe, sure, but I love this place for its eyebrow-raising exterior. It’s very crooked, very picturesque, very Montmartre. Perhaps don’t expect a lively conversation from the staff 😉 Address: 1bis Rue Ravignan, 75018 Paris @cafetabacparis 7. HARDWARE SOCIETY Right behind the Sacré Coeur you’ll find this gem of a cafe, hyper friendly staff, delicious coffees, and an impressive menu for brunch. Address: 10 Rue Lamarck, 75018 Paris @hardwaresocieteparis Enjoyed this list? Check out my best cafe tip for each of the 20 Paris arrondissements. Really like this list?
